The Amaray style case has become the most recognisable and widely used type of packaging for DVDs. First created and patented by Amaray, it has since been produced in variant forms by a number of manufacturers. It is light, shatterproof, can be mailed without additional packaging, has space for printed material and is available in a number of colours, plus clear. Most importantly, it holds the DVD clear of the case, preventing damage to the playing surface, whilst using an ingenious locking mechanism which 'pops' the disc out of the holder for use.
There are versions of the case available for 8cm discs, Card CDs, and a jewel case sized product aimed at audio and super audio CDs.
